About This Course

As organizations ask leaders to guide improvement and growth, leading change becomes an increasingly important leadership competency.  This course focuses on change, whether within organizations or in a broader context. We will develop the ability to identify, implement, and sustain change.

Through exploration of change theory, case studies, and examples, participants will hone change leadership skills for the betterment of themselves, their teams, and their organizations.

Course Designed For

The Certificate in Leading Change course is designed for professionals at every level. This is an absolute skill needed for top-level exectutives. While everyone may not be officially tasked with change management, most of us are expected to identify and implement improvements in our organizations. At any level in your organization, with a well-developed skill set, you can be a champion for positive change.

  • Content & Competencies

    Introduction to Change Leadership
    Friday – April 24, 2020, 1 PM to 5 PM
    Session 1

    This session will focus on the basics of change leadership, the history of change management and how it influences today’s thinking in organizations. We will begin a deep dive into change management models, and look at both historical and current perspectives. Our goal will be to understand the benefits and drawbacks of various approaches, as well as which models to apply in which situation.

    Leading Change and Learning from Organizational Change Efforts
    Saturday – April 25, 2020, 9 AM to 5 PM
    Session 2

    In this full day session, we will discuss various organizational change initiatives and identify what we can learn from their successes or challenges using the models and tools we have studied in previous weeks. We will use an in-depth case study to examine and apply change models to real situations.

    Your Change Leadership Style
    Friday – May 1, 2020, 1 PM to 5 PM
    Session 3

    This session will include an assessment of your own orientation to change, and how you can use this self-awareness to master your skills as an organizational change agent.

    The Psychology of Change and Planning Your Own Change Strategy
    Saturday – May 2, 2020, 9 AM to 5 PM
    Session 4

    Even positive changes generate resistance! We will study the psychology of change, and how to guide oneself and others through resistance successfully. We will discuss common changes one might make in an organization and how to navigate this effectively, then explore how to engage stakeholders in your change efforts. We will then turn our focus to identifying and influencing those whose involvement is needed, and strategies for making a change stick, wrapping up with participants identifying a change they would like to make in their own organization or team, and working through the steps of creating a plan for doing so.

    Amy WallisAmy Wallis, Lead Faculty

    Dr. Wallis is a Full Professor of Practice in leadership and ethics in the Wake Forest University School of Business. She is an organizational development leader with experience in organizational strategy, talent and leadership development, and succession planning. Prior to joining the Wake Forest faculty in 2012, she was an organizational development leader in various international corporate environments focusing on organizational change, talent and leadership development, performance management, and succession planning. She has consulted with organizations in many industries, including travel, high tech, pharmaceutical, professional services, banking, and the non-profit sector.

    Program Prerequisites

    Participants must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. A TOEFL examination for non-native speakers of English is not required but students are expected to read, write and comprehend English at the graduate level to fully participate in and gain from the program. Requests for exceptions to these requirements must be made in writing to the program director at WakeCERT@wfu.edu.
    The Wake Forest University Certificates Program is an open-enrollment, non-credit bearing program.
  • Time, Location & Parking

    Classes are offered on 2 Friday afternoons (4/24/20 and 5/1/20) from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 2 Saturday sessions (4/25/20 and 5/2/20) from 9AM to 5PM.  Missed sessions are not refundable.

    Course will be held at the Wake Forest University Charlotte Center in Uptown Charlotte: 200 N. College St. Ste 150 Charlotte, NC 28202

    Parking is available for class after 4PM at no charge in the Wake Forest University Charlotte Center Parking Garage located on 5th Street and adjacent to the Wake Forest Charlotte Center.  (You may enter/exit the garage from 5th or 6th Street.)  Please bring your parking ticket in for validation.

    $3600 one-time registration and payment for all 8 classes. Registration is complete and your place in the class reserved as full payment is received.  Payments are considered nonrefundable on/beyond their designated course registration deadline.

    Participants attending all sessions and successfully completing all required coursework within the course time-frame are eligible to receive a Wake Forest University Certificate.
